Revised Zero Tolerance Policy
for the Clear Lake Bridge Club
The board of directors of CLBC have
revised the ZT policy to better reflect our desire to have a proper
competitive atmosphere at all the CLBC games. In accordance with the
Laws of Duplicate bridge, it is expected that all players will conduct
themselves in an appropriate manner. Below are some examples of commendable
behavior:
- Be a good host. N/S
players should welcome the East - West players in a friendly manner.
- Praise good bidding/play
of opponents.
- Have clearly completed convention
cards-one for each player at the table.
Behavior which will not be tolerated
includes but is not limited to :
- Intimidation, rudeness,
badgering.
- Negative comments, profanity
or threats towards opponents and/or partner.
- Disruptive arguing, loud
responses to a director’s ruling.
The directors have been instructed
to consider applying the following penalties for poor behavior:
- A warning shall be given
before the game begins.
- A first offense shall include
a penalty of up to ½ a board if a single individual/partnership is
found guilty. If it is not clear who the violator is or both partnerships
are at fault, there will be a quarter of a board penalty for each of
the partnerships at the table (A short e-mail should be sent by the
director to the CLBC president explaining what happened).
- If there is a second offense
at the same event, then the violating partnership will be assessed a
whole board penalty. The director shall be required in this case
to prepare a written review for the president. Also a written
review will be required for anyone having a second violation within
12 months of his/her first violation. If appropriate, the President
shall have the right to suspend the violator for a length of time consistent
with the seriousness of the violation.
- Any third violation within
a twelve month period will require the Club president to send a review
to the Unit president with recommendations as to whether a disciplinary
committee should be formed and limitations to play should apply to the
whole unit.
The best way to avoid any of
these penalties is to play in a pleasant, friendly and socially acceptable
manner.
